MIRROR MIRROR ON THE WALL

When reality crushes the imaginary world, even though it seems contradictory, everything is possible, even the impossible.

Streams Gallery is pleased to present Mirror Mirror on the Wall, a group exhibition featuring artworks by BustArt, Clarence Ruth, Jafael, Maddalena Fanfani, Maria Imaginário, Shishidomia and Siukins. Featuring original paintings, woodcuts and sculptures, the exhibition presents a group portrait of the creativity and imaginations that defines one’s imaginary reality. Each artist gives us his or her vision on dreaming, mental confusion and inspiration from the new normal.

In a year like no other, we have been going through unprecedented changes altered by the pandemic.
Many of us have been made to adjust ourselves to new habits, lifestyles and thinking. Some of us can adapt to changes quickly while some of us struggle to change. Humanity is challenged by harsh reality. Resembling the mirror in Snow White, it has ignited the feeling of jealousy, frustration and hatred with the queen.
The pandemic has stirred the harmful emotions of anxiety, fear and depression inside us.
What triggers the burst of emotions? The sudden attack of reality might be one of the fuels. But thefundamental source would be the reality of life we have created in mind that constructs one’s worldview.
It could be beautified or blemished as it depends on how you have composed your imaginary reality. When serious deviation occurs between the reality and the crafted reality of life, our inner world knocks down. It does not mean all imaginations are false and we should be restricted by reality. Diving into one’s imaginary reality and reflecting on ourselves might be a good way to learn in the new normal.
